Andreas Racing Association Centre Championships  - Jurby Airfield

The RG is going great now, and I’m really enjoying myself on it. There was a local meeting at Jurby Airfield at the start of the month and I had only ridden out there once all year, so I decided to give it a blast.

I thought we might as well have a go in the Open class as well as the Forgotten Era class, because the bike is competitive enough, even if it isn’t brilliant on the brakes.

I ended up twelfth in both Open races, which I was happy enough with to be fair. I didn’t get good starts in either of them but it was good fun, and I had a particularly good battle with former Centre Champion, Dave Madsen-Mygdal in the second one. He was riding Peter Tyer’s super quick R71 Yamaha that one of the lads in Ray Stringers old team road in the British Championship last year. It was quick down the straights but I kept stuffing it up the inside of him on the corners. I think he enjoyed it as well, and I don’t think he was offended by any of the manoeuvres!

The Forgotten Era races themselves were a great way of showing how far we have come this year with the bike. In June, when I rode at Jurby, I had a real close dice with Jamie Broughton, but this time out there was no way he was living with me. To be fair, he shouldn’t live with me anyway, because he is riding a 350 TZ (a very fast one mind) but I never claimed to be any good at this short circuit lark.

So a satisfying day to say the least, and I even got my picture in the paper (for the racing and not for being in trouble!).
